EVENT: 2008, A 1967-STYLE PRESIDENTIAL BARBECUE [Editor's Note: This page refers to a prior year event. To see details for current year events, please go to the Activities page. Thanks] Saturday, May 17, 2008, A 1967-Style Presidential Barbecue: Afternoon Schedule of Events, duplicating President and Mrs. Johnson's 1967 BBQ for the Organization of American States: ![]() 3:00 - 6:15PM: Park gates open at 3:00PM with exhibits and special tours, and a social hour beginning at 4:00PM. The social hour will include beer, wine, hors d'oeuvres, and a welcoming by LBJ Library Actor, Michael Stuart, portraying President Johnson. This might be the perfect time to hop in the 1967 Lincoln convertible for a photo opportunity and a ride around the ranch. Everyone will be entertained by live Western Music leading up to a Texas Heritage Show provided by the Ft. Griffin Fandangle at 5:30PM. The Fandangle is described as "Texas' oldest outdoor musical based on the Pioneer Chronicles of West Texas." 6:30-10:00PM:
Following the Fandangle, everyone will dine on the same BBQ menu enjoyed by the 1967 guests. The location in the Live Oak Grove next to the Pedernales River should provide a magical evening. After dinner you will be welcomed to continue to enjoy music and dancing as the sun sets on this very special event. This is a major fundraising event, and the Friends of the LBJ National Park will use the net proceeds to help provide future park activities and educational opportunities to the public, free of charge.
