2009 SUMMER MOVIE SERIES "UNDER THE STARS" AT LBJ RANCH

[Editor's Note: This page refers to a prior year event. To see details for current year events, please go to the Activities page. Thanks]

Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park continues its popular summer movie series with three classic films, all to be shown on the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall. All movies are free of charge and will be presented on a giant outdoor screen with professional sound. Free refreshments are also part of the experience. All showings are set for Saturday nights at 9 p.m., with a rain date on the next (Sunday) night.

The first movie, "Will Penny," will be shown on Saturday, June 13. It stars Charleton Heston in a Western that is also a romance. Also starring are Joan Hackett, Donald Pleasance, Lee Majors, Bruce Dern, Ben Johnson and Slim Pickens. Released in April, 1968, it is one of the very last old time Hollywood westerns. It won the Bronze Wrangler Award at the 1968 Western Heritage Awards.

The public can drive onto the LBJ Ranch beginning at 7:30 pm. Bring lawn chairs or quilts for seating comfort. Last summer, many people brought delicious picnic suppers to enjoy before the shows. This is the best way to experience what friends and neighbors of the Johnsons did back in the 1960s when they watched movies in the ranch airplane hangar for their evening entertainment.

For further information, visit www.nps.gov/lyjo, or call (830) 868-7128, extension 244 or 231.

NOTE: The other movies to be shown will be "The Green Berets" on July 18 and "Thunderball" on August 29.
