2010 LBJ 100 BIKE RIDE:

The 2010 LBJ 100 date has been set for 9:00AM, Saturday, March 27th. Please mark your calendars.

Also note the following enhancements that will make the 2010 event even more convenient and fun for all:
* The printed Registration Form will be revised and online registration will be via Active.Com;
* The Start/Finish line and timing clock will remain up until all riders are in;
* Food, drink and a "gathering place" will be available for riders after completing the loops;

Third Annual LBJ 100 - A Ride to Preserve History

The 3rd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour starts on the air strip of the historic LBJ Ranch on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 9:00 AM. The tour provides routes of 10, 30, 44 and 65 miles on scenic, low-traffic ranch roads in the Texas Hill Country.

As an added feature, Luci Baines Johnson's "Historical Tour of the LBJ Ranch" will depart at 1:00 PM (see Flash below). This narrated tour of the ranch landmarks is a not-to-be-missed event included in the registration price. Listen to Presidential history from someone who lived it!

FLASH ! -- The starting time for the Luci Baines Johnson bicycle tour of the LBJ Ranch has been moved to 2:00pm, Saturday, 27 March, to allow more LBJ 100 longer-route riders to participate.

An exciting new addition to the 2010 LBJ 100 is the use of four historic Gillespie County rural schools as rest stops. What better way to honor Lyndon B. Johnson, the thirty-sixth President of the United States, widely acknowledged as the "Education President"! His progressive education bills and many of his "Great Society" legislation programs were designed in the tranquility of his ranch.

2009 SUMMER MOVIE SERIES "UNDER THE STARS" AT LBJ RANCH: Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park continues its popular summer movie series with three classic films, all to be shown on the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall. All movies are free of charge and will be presented on a giant outdoor screen with professional sound. Free refreshments are also part of the experience. All showings are set for Saturday nights at 9 p.m., with a rain date on the next (Sunday) night.

The first movie, "Will Penny," will be shown on Saturday, June 13. It stars Charleton Heston in a Western that is also a romance. Also starring are Joan Hackett, Donald Pleasance, Lee Majors, Bruce Dern, Ben Johnson and Slim Pickens. Released in April, 1968, it is one of the very last old time Hollywood westerns. It won the Bronze Wrangler Award at the 1968 Western Heritage Awards.

The public can drive onto the LBJ Ranch beginning at 7:30 pm. Bring lawn chairs or quilts for seating comfort. Last summer, many people brought delicious picnic suppers to enjoy before the shows. This is the best way to experience what friends and neighbors of the Johnsons did back in the 1960s when they watched movies in the ranch airplane hangar for their evening entertainment.

For further information, visit www.nps.gov/lyjo, or call (830) 868-7128, extension 244 or 231.

NOTE: The other movies to be shown will be "The Green Berets" on July 18 and "Thunderball" on August 29.

2nd ANNUAL LBJ 100 BICYCLE TOUR, March 28, 2009: A Ride To Preserve History:

Come join us for a ride destined to become one of the premier cycle venues in the springtime Texas Hill Country. The 2nd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour "saddles up" again on March 28, 2009 (9:00 a.m. start time).

With "wheels down" and a finish on the air strip of the historic LBJ Ranch, the tour traverses hilly, scenic, low-traffic ranch roads adjacent to the Ranch.

Routes of 10, 32, 45 and 62-miles (100 km) are provided. As an added feature, Luci Baines Johnson leads an additional, special 10-mile historical tour (11:00 a.m. start time), with narration at each of the landmarks on the Ranch - the Texas White House, cattle barn, old school, old homestead, and the Johnson family cemetery.

The Tour sponsors include the Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club, the National Park Service, and the Western National Parks Association. All net proceeds from the Tour go to the betterment of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.

A major leader of the Democratic Party and the 36th U.S. President (1963-1968), Lyndon Johnson loved nothing more than the tranquility and majestic setting of his Hill Country Ranch. Much of his Great Society legislation -- The "War on Poverty," Medicare (health care for the elderly), Medicaid (health care for the poor), aid to education, and critical Civil Rights laws -- was designed in the serenity of this environment. LBJ and Lady Bird deeded the ranch to the American people in 1972. With the passing of Lady Bird in 2007, the ranch is now part of the National Park Service.

The LBJ 100 annual event is the premier ride to promote, protect and preserve the history of this national park site.

Click Route Map for a detailed route map (pdf file).

Flash Update! The LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour is now included as a Tour de Cure Training Ride. See: TdC Flyer and their: Web details.
