SPECIAL RECOGNITION FROM THE BOARD
LUCI BAINES JOHNSON: Luci Baines Johnson, younger daughter of President and Lady Bird Johnson, has been our truest friend and strongest supporter since the Friends were organized. In the two and one-half years since, Luci has always been willing to give freely of her time, energy and enthusiasm. She and her husband, Ian Turpin, have not only been there supporting the LBJ 100 Bicycle rides, leading bike tours of the LBJ Ranch, welcoming guests to the BBQs at the Ranch and special Texas White House receptions and Silent Auctions, but also have provided sound counsel and advice for meeting the mission and purposes of the Friends. Luci is largely responsible for our success, and it is with great pleasure and honor that we acknowledge her contributions with this Special Recognition from the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park.
BOB HICKERSON: Bob is currently Chief Operating Officer for Texas Tech University Division of Off-Campus Sites, managing academic centers in Amarillo, Abilene, Marble Falls, Fredericksburg, El Paso and Junction. He previously served as Executive Director of the Texas Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service in Austin, a small state agency which managed the Texas AmeriCorps grant program, and he served as the Governor's Office of Volunteerism under Governor Bush. A veteran of 28 years service as a naval aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps, Colonel Hickerson has degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Southern California and the Naval War College. He commanded aviation units at all levels and logged over 5000 hours in various jet and helicopter aircraft. He is active in several community-based non-profit organizations and helps teach a nonprofit management certificate for Texas Tech. He and his wife Judy reside in Fredericksburg, Texas. From the Friends Board of Directors: Bob was instrumental in formulating our Strategic Plan and providing direction for our goals. He has made a special contribution to the Friends, and because of his support, input and organizational skills, the board, with great pleasure, recognizes him as the first member for Special Recognition from the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park. His primary business focus continues to this day in personally conducting web site and telecommunication projects, and coaching small businesses. He has spent most of his professional career in consulting. George and his wife, Sharon, relocated in mid-2006 to Johnson City in the Texas Hill Country. He has two children. Jennifer, who lives in Atlanta, and Jeffrey, a US Marine Corps veteran, who lives in the Houston area. George has been a volunteer Paramedic with various EMS organizations. NOLAN KUEHN:
Nolan is a native Texan, born and raised in South Texas. He graduated from William Adams High School in Alice in 1959, and has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Texas A& M University. He has done graduate work in Business Administration at Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston. After his career in the engineering design/construction field with major international firms, volunteerism played a greater part in his life, included a period as Executive Director of an interfaith-based disaster relief group helping people recover from the Allison flood in Houston. Nolan and his wife Elayne have always been avid tennis players, and this interest sparked a desire to relocate to the tennis-active community of Fair Oaks Ranch in the Texas Hill Country in 2003. In addition to past service on the Board of Directors of the Houston Tennis Association, Nolan presently serves on the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Tennis Association. He is also active in the Alamo City Tennis Officials' Association. Cycling is Nolan's other passionate avocation, which dates back to childhood. His cycle touring interest peaked in 2005, when he joined an international group for a self-contained tour with Adventure Cycling across the U.S.A. from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL. He describes it as "an experience of a lifetime." He is immediate past President of the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club, and still serves on the Board. He is also a member of the San Antonio Wheelmen cycle club, and serves on the Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee, part of the San Antonio/Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization. Nolan feels privileged to be the Chair of the LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour, which celebrates the centennial of the birth year of Lyndon B. Johnson, and introduces new planned changes to the LBJ National Historical Park. From the Friends Board of Directors: Nolan and the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club are true friends of the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park. Nolan and other executive officers along with the club membership have pledged all net proceeds from the LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour to the support of the Friends of LBJNHP mission. Nolan and club members have personally visited bicycle shops in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi and the DFW area, distributing flyers and posters advertising the LBJ 100 ride. He has coordinated the vast logistics of a ride that could have as many as 1000 cyclists, solicited volunteers and arranged for sponsorships. The board proudly acknowledges his work and that of the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club with this Special Recognition from the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park |
